Arena Announcements for March 4th, 2024

  • Alchemy: Karlov Manor will introduce 30 new cards to Alchemy, Historic, Timeless, and Brawl starting tomorrow.
  • Two cards are receiving the rebalance treatment with the update to Arena tomorrow.
    • Geological Appraiser will now increase in cost from 2RR to 3RR in the Alchemy and Historic formats. This will not change the card in Timeless.
    • Fragment Reality will now only target your opponents permanents, when previously it could target your own. This will change the card in every format where it is currently legal, including Timeless.
  • In the Arena store tomorrow you will be able to purchase Fallout cosmetics for the first time, including Bobblehead Sleeves, Full-Art Lands, and a Dogmeat pet. There also appears to be a Dogmeat emote, however this was not mentioned in the article.
  • The Murders at Karlov Manor (MKM) Store Championships are coming to a WPN game store near you, March 2nd through 10th. All rounds of the event will be Standard Constructed, and you can earn a Mortify promo card just for taking part. If you get to the Top 8 you’ll recieve a promo Angel of Despair, and if you win you’ll recieve a textless Dauthi Voidwalker.
  • There will be a ranked Premier Draft format for Alchemy: Karlov Manor starting on March 5th, however the visual bug that has been preventing the rankings persists.
  • Before I get into the Event Schedule, there are a few things that aren’t in today’s Arena Annoucements that I think are worth calling out (but probably aren’t worth their own article.)
    • There is no Arena Open in April. I asked about this on the official Magic Discord and was told that the month gap is not a new normal but a result of how the set release and PT schedule has lined up.
  • Bloomburrow will be Prereleasing at the end of July (with the full release happening on August 2nd), which is slightly earlier than the Standard set in that slot would come out. When asked about this on his Blog, MaRo confirmed this to be an effort to give more space to the premier sets in the second half of the year.
  • There is still no information on if we’re going to have a Streamer Event for Outlaws of Thunder Junction. I asked Blake on Twitter and was told to ask the official MTG Arena account, but have yet to recieve an answer.
  • The way Arena will be handling the Alchemy: Karlov Manor draft packs is by adding a new slot to packs for the Alchemy cards. This means that during Alchemy drafts there will be 14 cards in a pack instead of 13.
  • According to Dave from the official Magic Discord, Limited Arena Opens are “significantly” more popular than Constructed Opens. ACQs have proven more appealing to constructed players, so it seems likely we’ll be seeing more of a mix of Limited and Constructed for these events.
