MTGO Weekly Announcements Recap For May 21st, 2024

  • Stefan Schütz won the MOCS Season 1 Showcase this past weekend and, along with 2nd place finisher Sam Rolph, will be heading to the Magic World Championship in Las Vegas later this year.
  • Arya Karamchandani is the MTGO Masters Season 1 champion, using Amulet Titan to beat out Carmen Klomparen’s Temur Prowess in the finals.
  • The MTGO Closed Beta program is returning.
    • If you’re interested in playing “…a selection of complicated cards against a curated set of wordy and weird cards from MTGO’s history” in a Sealed Deck League of Commander games, you can sign up by going to help.mtgo.com an submitting a ticket with “Apply to Beta Program” as the subject.
    • The program is set to start on Friday, May 31st with the MH3 Beta.
  • The official MTGO YouTube channel has the entire first season of Nile Joan River’s Magic Discovery Zone available now.
    • Season 3 has been said to be coming very soon.
  • The Pauper Showcase Challenge will be on Saturday, May 25th.
  • The Pioneer Showcase Challenge will be on Sunday, May 26th.
  • The Limited Super Qualifier will be on Monday, May 27th. The format will be Outlaws of Thunder Junction Sealed, with a Top 8 draft.
  • Modern Horizons 2 Phantom Flashback Drafts start tomorrow, May 22nd and will run until May 29th.
    • MTGO is adding a new Gold Single-Elimination queue event for these drafts, which will cost 15 Tix or 150 Play Points, with a 50% increase in prizes to match up with the increased entry fee. There will also be additional QPs as part of the prize pool.
  • Additional information on the Vintage Cube polish pass will be available on Friday, May 24th before Vintage Cube returns for a two-week run up to the release of Modern Horizons 3.
