  • This article also addressed the unranked Arena matchmaking topic that came up over the last week. If this is a topic that interests you, I urge you to follow the source link above to read the full context of the discussion. I’m going to summerize the discussion here, but I don’t want important context to get lost, so if you have a strong reaction to this I think you owe it to yourself to read the full text in the article.
    • This only applies to Bo1, unranked queues, as well as some Midweek Magic events.
    • They don’t want to share the full details, as they don’t want to encourage people to game the system.
    • The system does look at the cards in your deck, as well as your Commander, and assigns them a “score” before trying to match your deck against a deck of similar power level. If a good match cannot be found, the range of decks the system will pair you with expands slightly over time until a match is found for you.
    • A player’s skill (often referred to by the community as your “hidden MMR”) also factors into the matchmaking system. They don’t want newer, less skilled players always running into high skilled players every time they enter the queues.
    • They’re going to fix the issue that resulted in the individual card scores to leak out, and will soon adjust some of these scores as normal based on play patterns over the last few weeks.
  • The card style button is returning.
    • Note: This should fix the issue people were having in the Chromatic Cube event, where it was difficult to add a card to your deck if you didn’t own the displayed card style.
  • When Modern Horizons 3 is released, currency for players in Japan will be updated to JPY and will have prices adjusted. This is in like with how they handled the EU currency. Players outside of Japan should not notice a change.
  • Some notes that were not in the Arena Announcement article:
    • If you play in a MH3 draft event at a participating WPN store between June 14 and July 14 you can earn a reward on Arena. You can only earn each reward once, and the reward should be in your account on or after July 31st.
      • The first entry gets you a Kozilek, the Broken Reality old boarder card style.
      • The second entry gest you a Wurmcoil Engine sleeve.
      • The third entry gets you a Draft Token for one free Arena Bo1 draft.
