The VML announced on Twitter today that WotC has informed them the company will no longer be supporting the VML, and that without this support there will be no more VML seasons. WotC had previously supported the VML with both monetary funding and by allowing invites to Organized Play events as prizes. This included invites to both Regional Championships and Pro Tours.
The VML, an organization dedicated to “…break[ing] down gender-based barriers in the MTG gaming and community spaces.”, recently crowned Autumn Burchett the champion of its 13th season and Camden Garofalo the winner of the 2024 championship.
Over 20 players who have taken part in at least one VML season will be playing at Pro Tour: Aetherdrift next month, which speaks to the high quality of play we’ve come to expect from veterans of the VML.
No additional details on the reason WotC decided to stop supporting the VML are available at the time of this writing.
