It was noted that WotC will continue covering the US tax obligations for international players who win physical product. How local taxes are handled was not mentioned in this article.
The new structure will go into effect with the Dragonstorm Play Booster Arena Direct event happening on May 2nd.
It was also mentioned in the article that while Arena Direct events will typically be Sealed, they plan to “…continue to try new things…”. So far we’ve seen one Arena Direct utilize Draft as the format rather than Sealed.
The meat of this article goes into how the Arena Direct events will be changing structurally, and they’re all pretty huge.
The current structure of the events, regardless of if they’re for collector booster boxes or play booster boxes, are as follows:
Entry is 5,000 gems
0-3 wins gets you no prize
4 wins earns you 2,000 gems
5 wins earns you 5,000 gems
6 wins earns you either 2 Play Booster Boxes or 1 Collector Box, depending on the event.
As the structure of these events is changing considerably depending on which type of event they are for, and additionally if it’s for a Universes Beyond set, I’m going to cover each change in a separate section.
