Through The Omenpaths 1 FAQ

General Information

• Q: What is Through the Omenpaths 1?
  • Through the Omenpaths 1, or OM1, is the digital Magic equivalent of the Marvel Spider-Man set (SPM).
• Q: Why isn’t SPM on Arena and MTGO, and how are they different?
  • Due to digital licensing rights, the SPM cards cannot be represented on either of the two major digital Magic clients. The OM1 cards are functionally identical to the SPM cards, with the only notable exception being The Soul Stone’s card type. As “Infinity Stone” appears to be a term owned by Marvel, it was changed to “Terminus Stone” for OM1. It is extremely unlikely that this will ever matter.
• Q: Will the other Marvel sets be changed for the digital clients as well?
  • Yes, according to the announcement article for Through the Omenpaths, future Marvel sets will also receive the same treatment as SPM. They will likely be listed as OM2, OM3, etc.
• Q: Are other Universes Beyond sets going to be changed for the digital clients?
  • Other than the future Marvel sets, there are currently no announced Universes Beyond (UB) sets that will receive the same treatment as SPM. While it remains possible that this happens, at the time of this writing, the only revealed UB set is Avatar, which will appear on MTGO and Arena exactly the same for both paper Magic and the digital clients.
• Q: Why are there so few cards in this set?
  • When SPM was initially in design, at the end of 2022, it was going to be a 100 card set that was not going to be Standard legal with no Limited format. Over the course of design, the set changed quite a bit until it became what we have now. Eric Engelhard wrote a fantastic article discussing the design journey of this set that I highly recommend if you want to know additional details about how and why this happened.
    

OM1 Limited (Pick 2 Draft)

• Q: What is Pick 2 Draft?
  • Pick 2 Draft, or just Pick 2, is a variant of normal Limited draft that has been designed for a pod of 4 people rather than the normal 8. As OM1 only has 188 unique cards, the feeling was that the set couldn’t support a full pod of 8 players due to only having 5 supported 2-color archetypes. The only major differences between normal Draft and Pick 2 is that in a Pick 2 draft there will only be 4 players in your pod, and instead of taking 1 card for every pick, you’ll take 2 instead.
• Q: Will I be able to play Pick 2 on Arena and MTGO?
  • Yes! Both clients will fully support Pick 2 drafts, in the following forms:
    • Arena
      • Pick 2 Premier Draft: September 23 – November 18
        • This will be ranked.
      • Best of 3 Pick 2 Draft: September 23 – November 18
      • Pick 2 Quick Draft: October 3 – October 14
        • This will be ranked.
    • MTGO
      • Pick 2 Draft League: September 23 – October 8
      • Pick 2 Phantom Single-Elimination: September 23 – October 8
• Q: Will the structure of these events be different from normal drafts?
  • Yes, in the following ways:
    • Arena
      • We only know the structure of the Pick 2 Premier Draft, and it can be found in this article.
    • MTGO
      • MTGO has clearly laid out the structure for all of the OM1 Limited events, and they can be found in this article.
• Q: Will Arena or MTGO be offering normal drafts for OM1?
  • Arena will not. The only options to play OM1 drafts on Arena will all use the Pick 2 format.
  • MTGO will, from October 22 through October 29.
• Q: Will there be any normal, non-Pick 2 drafts available while OM1 is the featured format?
  • Yes! Arena will be starting Flashback drafts earlier in the season than typical, on the following schedule:
    • Duskmourn Premier Draft: October 7 – 14
    • Modern Horizons 3 Premier Draft: October 14 – 21
    • Dragonstorm Premier Draft: October 21 – 28
    • Currently, there are no events past October 28th on the Arena event schedule; however, I expect Flashback drafts to continue through November 18, when the Avatar set releases. As soon as I get word of what these formats will be, they’ll appear on my event calendar.
  • MTGO will be offering Vintage Cube from October 1 – 21.

Competitive Play

• Q: Will MTGO be using OM1 for Preliminaries and Challenges?
  • No, MTGO has decided to cycle through most of the sets in the Play Booster era instead of using OM1. Limited Prelims and Challenges will use the following formats instead:
    • September 23-October 1 – Edge of Eternities
    • October 1-7 – Tarkir: Dragonstorm
    • October 8-14 – Aetherdrift
    • October 15-21 – Duskmourn: House of Horror
    • October 22-28 – Bloomburrow
    • October 29-November 4 – Modern Horizons 3
    • November 5-11 – Outlaws of Thunder Junction
    • November 12-18 – Murders at Karlov Manor
• Q: Wait, will stores be using SPM for Limited RCQs?
  • Maybe. Typically stores are only allowed to use the most current set for Limited RCQs; however, Fireshoes was able to confirm that WotC is relaxing that requirement for SPM and stores will be allowed to use either SPM or EOE when running Limited RCQs. Please check with your LGS before attending a Limited RCQ to make sure you’re preparing for the correct format.
• Q: Will Arena be using OM1 for the Arena Championship Qualifier?
  • Yes, on the following dates:
    • OM1 Sealed Best of 1 Play-In: October 11
    • OM1 Sealed Best of 3 Play-In: October 17
    • OM1 Sealed Arena Championship Qualifier Weekend: October 18-19

Play Booster Information

• Q: Does this set have a Bonus Sheet?
  • Yes, but they only appear in roughly one out of every 24 packs. When they appear, they will replace a Common.

• Q: Are there dual lands in this set?
  • Yes, each of the allied color pairs has a dual land, with the ability to pay 4 mana to tap and Surveil 1.
  • These will appear in the land slot of Play Boosters, in roughly 1 out of every 2 packs.
